There is a long tradition in Japan of drawstring bags in a variety of shapes and sizes. This simple design made from strips of fabric was often used  for taking offerings of rice or beans to temples or shrines. This bag is made from kimono and other remnants of varying ages and is lined with plain maroon cotton.  There are some marks and one panel is badly worn. The sides panels are 21cm and the base is 17cm x 17cm.
