Bijin-ga literally means 'beautiful person picture' and is a traditional genre of prints and paintings of women, This set of bijin-ga was a 'special supplement for Shufu-no-tomo August 1932' Shufu -no -tomo (lit. housewife's friend) was a a popular women's magazine and is still a large Japanese publishing company. The title on the envelope reads ’Summer appearance - Bijin-ga masterpiece colour paper collection'. These are mass-produced pictures - not hand-printed. There are 8 in the set each measuring 25.5cm x 21cm and come in a paper envelope with an ad for face cream on the back.
